Macarena Paz / BVA
Oil painting · Santiago
Her practice moves between poetic writing and oil painting, a medium she chose for its closeness to modelling clay. Self-taught, over the years she slowed down her process: from painting directly onto the canvas she moved to recording reflections, poems and concerns —death, inadequacy, gender identity— in notebooks. She then transfers those records to oil, composing scenes of the spaces she moves through, with a malleable texture. Today she works around grief and the image, and understands each work as an open letter.
